The Arthur F. Dias Town Landing provides boaters with easy access to beautiful Apponagansett Bay, a haven for boating in South Dartmouth. The two asphalt boat ramps are wide and well maintained, and there’s easy parking for vehicles and trailers nearby. Kayakers and paddleboarders can also launch from the shoreline at the town landing.

From the town landing, travel under the drawbridge to motor out toward the open waters of Buzzards Bay. Apponagansett Bay is close to excellent striped bass fishing spots like Mishaum Ledge, Great Ledge, and Dumpling Rocks. If you’re in a kayak, stick close to the shores of Apponagansett Bay to explore this tidal estuary.

Habitats & Wildlife

Apponagansett Bay is an estuary that’s fed by Buttonwood Brook, which begins in New Bedford’s West End. Kayakers can paddle all the way up to the mouth of Buttonwood Brook, near Russells Mills Road. The salt marshes that line the shores here are a thriving coastal ecosystem where herons, egrets, fish, and fiddler crabs live.
