You and your little ones can discover the outdoors at Itty Bitty Bay Explorers, a series of four free outings on Wednesdays in September hosted by the Buzzards Bay Coalition. Through fun games and hands-on activities, your whole family will learn about animals, plants, and habitats in the Buzzards Bay region.
Itty Bitty Bay Explorers is recommended for families with young children. We encourage you to attend all four programs, but it’s not required.
- Introduction to Exploration (Sept. 7): Meet new friends and learn all about Buzzards Bay’s animals, plants, and habitats as you prepare to explore the outdoors. We’ll read a story, look at fish and crabs in our mini touch tanks, and make art together during this fun indoor program.
- Meadow Discovery (Sept. 14): Meadows are beautiful habitats that are full of life! During this meadow discovery, we’ll use nets to find butterflies, birds, small mammals, and other creatures that hide among the flowers and grasses. Please wear appropriate clothing for walking among tall grasses.
- Forest Exploration (Sept. 21): Learn about the animals and plants that live in the forest! We’ll have an adventure among the trees while we play fun games like “Meet a Tree” and make our very own artwork from leaf rubbings. Please wear appropriate footwear for walking on trails in the woods.
- River Exploration (Sept. 28): Get to know the species that live in fresh water during this fascinating exploration of the edge of the Acushnet River. We’ll use nets to scoop fish and insects out of the river to see what hides under the water’s surface. Be prepared to get a little wet and dirty!
This program is supported in part by a grant from the New Bedford Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
