Even in winter, Little Harbor Beach is a fun place to bring your kids to look for shells in the sand.

Features

No matter what time of year it is, Little Harbor Beach is worth checking out. In summer, the beach is a busy destination for Wareham families to splash in the open waters of Buzzards Bay. In winter, the beach quiets down, but the views remain spectacular for long walks along the shore.

If you enjoy kayaking, head to Little Harbor Beach for a quiet paddle through the marsh or an adventure on the Bay’s waves all the way to the Cape Cod Canal.

Habitats & Wildlife

Because of its location at the head of Buzzards Bay, the sandy shore at Little Harbor Beach is an excellent spot for beachcombing. In the off-season, bring your kids to the beach to look for bay scallop, quahog, mussel, whelk, and ark shells hidden in the sand.

Another special habitat here is the salt marsh that wraps around Little Harbor. Birds flock to this protected marsh, which makes it an interesting place for local birders that’s close to another birding hotspot: Mass Audubon’s Great Neck Wildlife Sanctuary. Back over on the beach, lucky birders might spot a rare piping plover, which have been observed here.
