Westport River Boat Ramp
Head out for a day of fishing and boating on Buzzards Bay from the state boat ramp on the Westport River. Located just off Route 88, this town-managed public launch offers a place where boats of all sizes can reach the Westport River, the Bay, and beyond.
Features
Considered one of the top boat ramps on Buzzards Bay, the Westport River launch provides great access to places like Cuttyhunk and the Elizabeth Islands, as well as Rhode Island and offshore waters due south of Westport. The concrete, double-wide boat ramp is in great condition, and there is ample, affordable parking for both vehicles and trailers.
Habitats & Wildlife
The boat ramp is located on the East Branch of the Westport River, near where the river enters Westport Harbor and the Westport River inlet. This tidal estuary is known for its intense currents, strong southerly winds, and a few large rocks, so be careful when launching from the boat ramp and navigating the narrow channel out to Buzzards Bay.
The Westport Rivers are known as a fishing hotspot; in early spring, schoolie stripers arrive along the marshy shores, and larger stripers soon follow as they chase herring upstream. If you’re headed offshore, you can easily reach other Buzzards Bay fishing destinations such as Gooseberry Island, Mishaum Ledge, Sow & Pigs Reef, and Quicks Hole from the boat ramp.
