These grant funds were made available through the efforts of the New Bedford Earth Day 50^th Anniversary Committee in 2020.  Plans for the anniversary event were derailed due to the Covid 19 pandemic, and the Committee wishes to distribute funds raised according to the expectations of the donors.

Initiatives may include but not be limited to:

• Climate change education, including experiential learning opportunities
• The preservation and protection of areas most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, including beaches, saltmarshes, and uplands immediately adjacent to the coast
• The restoration of areas that, when improved, will contribute to climate resiliency, such as the planting of street trees; the conversion of residential lawns, farmlands, and paved areas along the coast to native grassland; the expansion of culverts to allow for increased tidal flow
• Neighborhood and beach clean-ups

All activities should occur within the Coalition’s working area (https://www.savebuzzardsbay.org/about-us/where-we-work/).

Successful applicants will demonstrate that the project for which they are seeking funding can be implemented during the 2023 calendar year.  Additionally, grantees must agree to their project being included in communications from the Buzzards Bay Coalition to its membership and other community stakeholders.
