Even in winter, Cherry & Webb Beach offers Westport residents a gorgeous place to explore sand and salt marsh.

With rolling waves and a long stretch of sandy shoreline, Cherry & Webb Beach is a favorite summer destination for Westport residents. It’s a spectacular spot to relax in the sun, play in the salty water, and search for shells along the shore.

But Cherry & Webb Beach isn’t just for sitting in the sand. To get to the beach, you’ll first have to walk down a long, sandy path through the dunes to the shoreline. If you’re craving some more exercise and fresh air, then take a mile-long stroll all the way to Horseneck Beach State Reservation – then retreat from the crowds back to Cherry & Webb.

Over by the parking area next to the picnic tables, launch a kayak or paddleboard on Westport Harbor to explore the marshy shores of the Westport River inlet.

Habitats & Wildlife

Cherry & Webb Beach wraps around Horseneck Point, a sandy strip of dunes, beach, and salt marsh where the Westport River inlet meets Buzzards Bay. The waters around the point have deep, fast-moving currents, so be careful when wading in. Along the beach, shells tell the story of the Bay’s vibrant shellfish life; look for oyster, quahog, mermaid’s toenails, and slipper shells hidden in the sand.

The beaches, dunes, and protected salt marshes here at Horseneck Point attract shorebirds like terns, gulls, and sandpipers. You can explore this natural habitat as you walk on the path from the parking area to the beach, which leads through the Cherry & Webb Conservation Area.
