Piping Plovers return from South American and the Caribbean in mid-March and begin to establish territories on coastal beaches. Join Mass Audubon’s Coastal Waterbird Team on an often brisk morning as they erect fencing that is used to symbolically fence off areas where two beach nesting birds, the piping plover and the American oystercatcher nest. The fencing, which is only symbolic, helps protect fragile nesting sites from accidental stepping on eggs or from dogs walking too close to nests. Plovers can nest as early as mid-April, and oystercatchers are known to start even earlier. Bring water, snacks and your own lunch and join us for a picnic lunch after we work. The program meets at the field station. This event is suitable for children 12-18 years old.

Cost: Free; registration is required.
