Church’s Field
With views of the Mattapoisett River and remnants of an old sawmill and settlement, Church’s Field in Rochester offers lots to discover in its 32 acres. This property was in the Church family for nearly 400 years before the Rochester Land Trust acquired it in 2010 for conservation and outdoor exploration.

From the parking area, take a path across the open field to the forest. The path passes through a gap in the stone wall and enters the woods. Follow the trail through the forest and wetlands to reach the Mattapoisett River.
Just before the river, you’ll spot a pile of glacial erratics: rocks left behind by retreating glaciers. These are thought to have been Native American landmarks.
