Features

salt marsh next to Round Hill Beach in Dartmouth

Look for egrets and herons hiding in the salt marsh next to Round Hill Beach.

Round Hill Beach is exclusive to residents of Dartmouth, which means that you need a resident sticker or day pass to get in during summer. But if you live in Dartmouth, Round Hill Beach is worth the price of admission. Relax on this long, sandy beach and listen to the sweet sounds of summer: rolling waves, calling gulls, and kids playing in the sand. The Bay’s waters are usually calm here, which makes the beach perfect for families to swim.

In addition to the sandy shores, Round Hill Beach offers a glimpse of local history. The beach neighbors the Colonel Green property, where a mansion built in 1921 by Ned Green, son of Henrietta “Hetty” Howland Green, stands. Hetty Green, better known as the “Witch of Wall Street,” was a New Bedford native and the wealthiest woman in the world during the Gilded Age.

Habitats & Wildlife

In summer, you’ll find gulls, terns, and ospreys soaring in the skies over Round Hill Beach. Along the beach’s western side, a salt marsh snakes its way toward Buzzards Bay. As you drive into the beach along Ray Peck Drive, look out for egrets and herons stalking their prey in the marsh.
