Just around the corner from Onset Beach lies Shell Point Beach, a town beach that overlooks Onset Bay. With sandy shores and a grassy park, Shell Point Beach is a great destination to swim, paddle, and walk while taking in Wareham’s coastal scenery.

Shell Point Beach is so close to popular Onset Beach, they both share the same sandy shoreline! In fact, you can walk along the sand from one beach to the other, which offers some nice exercise and fresh air for local residents.
Like Onset Beach, the water at Shell Point Beach is warm and shallow, which makes it a perfect spot for families with small children. Love paddling? Shell Point Beach is also a great place to launch a kayak or paddleboard and set off to explore Onset Bay.
From the park at Shell Point Beach, you can enjoy a beautiful view of Wareham’s coastal waters – busy Onset Bay to the east and calm, sheltered Shell Point Bay to the west. We particularly recommend visiting at sunset; the colorful display across the water is spectacular.
Habitats & Wildlife
Onset Bay plays host to a variety of water-loving bird species all year round, and Shell Point Beach is a wonderful place for bird enthusiasts to see them. In summer, you’re likely to see ospreys, herons, egrets, and gulls here. In autumn and winter, look for flocks of migratory ducks and geese out on the protected waters of Shell Point Bay.
