The Massachusetts Department of Fish & Game’s Division of Ecological Restoration (DER) is investing more than $1M to advance restoration of natural wetlands at two retired cranberry farms and at other impacted aquatic habitats throughout the Bay watershed.

Population counts of river herring were up in three of Buzzards Bay’s most important rivers — the Agawam, Acushnet, and Mattapoisett Rivers — during spring 2019. But rising numbers don’t mean that the work to protect river herring has ended.

The streams and wetlands at The Bogs in Mattapoisett will provide improved water flow and better wildlife habitat as part of a Coalition-led restoration project, beginning later this year.
