Get your little ones to discover the outdoors during Itty Bitty Bay Explorers, a series of four free outings on Wednesdays in September at The Sawmill with the Buzzards Bay Coalition. Through fun games and hands-on activities, your family can learn about Buzzards Bay’s animals, plants, and habitats.
Itty Bitty Bay Explorers is recommended for families with children five and younger. We encourage you to attend all four programs, but it isn’t required.
- Forest Discovery (Sept. 6): Learn about the animals and plants that live in the forest! We’ll have an adventure among the trees while we play fun games like “Meet a Tree” and make our very own artwork from leaf rubbings. Please wear appropriate footwear for walking on trails in the woods.
- River Exploration (Sept. 13): Get to know the species that live in fresh water during this fascinating exploration of the edge of the Acushnet River. We’ll use nets to scoop fish and insects out of the river to see what hides under the water’s surface. Be prepared to get a little wet and dirty!
- Meadow Investigation (Sept. 20): Meadows are beautiful habitats that are full of life! During this meadow discovery, we’ll use nets to find butterflies, birds, small mammals, and other creatures that hide among the flowers and grasses. Please wear appropriate clothing for walking among tall grasses.
- Wonders of Wetlands (Sept. 27): The Sawmill is home to a restored red maple swamp, a wet habitat where lots of plants and animals live. We’ll look for frogs, turtles, birds, bugs, and other creatures that live in wetlands. Please wear appropriate clothing for walking and getting a little wet and muddy.
