You and your little ones can discover the outdoors at Itty Bitty Bay Explorers, a series of four free outings on Wednesdays in April hosted by the Buzzards Bay Coalition and the Wareham Land Trust. Through fun games and hands-on activities, your whole family will learn about animals, plants, and habitats in the Buzzards Bay region.
Itty Bitty Bay Explorers is recommended for families with young children. We encourage you to attend all four programs, but it’s not required.
- April 5: Have you ever wondered what’s hiding in the sand at the beach? Or behind the mud and grass in a salt marsh? There’s a whole world just waiting to be discovered! Come search for signs of spring at the beach and salt marsh at the Lyman Reserve in Bourne, in partnership with The Trustees. Be prepared to get a little bit muddy!
- April 12: Discover spring river critters through fun games and hands-on exploration at Horseshoe Mill in Wareham! We’ll get to know the species that live in fresh water during this fascinating exploration of the river’s edge by using nets to scoop fish and insects out of the river. Be prepared to get a little wet and dirty!
- April 19: Explore the signs of spring at William Minot Forest in Wareham. We’ll have an adventure among the trees while we play fun games like “Meet a Tree” and make our very own artwork from leaf rubbings. Please wear appropriate footwear for walking on trails in the woods.
- April 26: Look for signs of spring around a cranberry bog and in the woods at Douglas S. Westgate Conservation Area in Wareham. We will search for different animals, such as frogs, and plants living in the habitats of this unique property.
