Tri-County Symphonic Band Concert: “Postcards from Buzzards Bay”
This event happened in the past.Marion, MA 02738
“Postcards from Buzzards Bay” is a celebration of the great body of water that shapes the lives of all who live and work in and around this wonder of nature. The concert is a collaborative effort between four very different organizations that separately work to invigorate our community: The Tri-County Music Association, the Buzzards Bay Coalition, the Marion Art Center, and the Community Boating Center of New Bedford.
The Tri-County Music Association commissioned Cape Cod composer Michael Donovan to write a piece that gives us musical perspective on the body of water that defines our area: “Postcards from Buzzards Bay.” This seven-movement work, to be premiered at the concert, takes us from Dartmouth to Woods Hole and brings to life the many ways that we encounter, embrace, and endure this wonderful Bay. The concert will also feature other works written about the Bay and about the sea, including a premier by Rochester composer John Wallace.
Coalition President Mark Rasmussen and Community Boating Center Executive Director Andy Herlihy will be on hand before, during, and after the concert to share information about the important work of these two organizations to connect more people to Buzzards Bay through boating and outdoor exploration. Coalition Director of Membership Donna Cobert will also perform as a member of the band on the oboe and English horn.
In addition to the musical performance, artists with the Marion Art Center will exhibit works celebrating Buzzards Bay at the Fireman Performing Arts Center. Confirmed artists include Sarah Brown, Severin Haines, Mike Mazer, and Dale Wallace. Concert attendees are welcome before and after the program to mingle with artists, musicians, and representatives from contributing organizations.
Cost: $15 general public, $5 students, free for children 12 and under
