Onset Bay Center Hosts Largest New Year’s Plunge Ever

On New Year’s Day at noon, more than 400 people jumped into the cold Onset Bay waters as part of a growing annual tradition. Hundreds more spectators cheered them on from the beach.

“The 2025 New Year’s Day Polar Plunge was an incredible success, bringing our community together for a thrilling start to the year,” said Stuart Downie, Coalition Vice President for Outdoor Exploration. “The energy, excitement, and bravery of everyone who participated were truly inspiring. Thank you for making this event unforgettable.”

The Plunge was co-hosted by the Onset Bay Center and the Onset Bay Association, both of which were accepting donations and selling branded merchandise. This event was made possible in part by funding from the Wareham Cultural Council and Mass Cultural Council.

Discounted sauna sessions from Tranquil Tides Mobile Sauna and warm drinks and pastries from Crabby Coffee Co., The Filling Station and Raads Caboose were available to participants and spectators alike. DJ Gazelle of Fun 107! was on hand to play music and psyche up the crowd before the plunge. Many thanks to the Onset Fire Department and Wareham Natural Resources Department for their attendance and watchful eyes to keep the waters and the participants safe and secure.
