Help the Onset Bay Center unlock $100K from an Anonymous Donor
Last fall, the Onset Bay Center (OBC) identified a new launch boat as the number one investment necessary to enable the expansion of its programming. Upon hearing about the need, an anonymous donor stepped forward with a $100,000 Matching Challenge to ensure that the OBC would have a dedicated launch service for its 2024 summer season and to inspire others to invest in this special project.
Time is of the essence – any gift for the launch campaign received by June 30th will be matched on a 1:1 basis by the anonymous donor. More than $84,000 has been raised thus far, and we’re hopeful that Coalition members who believe that all people should have access to high-quality on the water programs will help us to meet our $100,000 goal by the end of this month.
The matching challenge and gifts received thus far enabled OBC to take delivery on a 2022 Oldport 26’, christened Bufflehead. She has already started shuttling young people across Onset Bay – from Wickets Island to Burgess Point to the salt marches of Shell Point Bay.
While OBC’s 16’ center console inflatables sufficed in previous years, they represented only a temporary solution. The new launch will address the time constraints faced by school groups, enabling quick and efficient transportation for immersive, year-round outdoor exploration programs. More students have the chance to delve into all the Bay has to offer, and the launch will also ensure accessibility for those with physical and developmental disabilities, promoting inclusivity and expanding opportunities for all.
