School Programs

In an age where many young people are increasingly disconnected from the natural world, our mission is to bridge that gap by immersing youth in the beauty and wonder of Buzzards Bay, its waters, shores, and woodlands, through hands-on exploration and adventure.

At the Buzzards Bay Coalition, our Outdoor Exploration programs are guided by the simple belief that meaningful connections to nature begin with direct experience. Our programs invite discovery, play, and wonder. When a child feels the tug of a crab line, the pull of a paddle, or the force of a sail filled with wind, they are not just learning about nature, they are living it. These authentic experiences spark curiosity, build confidence, and foster a deep sense of belonging in the natural world. By nurturing this connection, we're helping to raise a generation that will protect Buzzards Bay and the wider natural world.

Guided and self-guided school program options

The Buzzards Bay Coalition encourages schools to explore and experience our network of protected reserves, trails, beaches, forests, marshes, and coastal properties throughout the Buzzards Bay watershed. Whether your class is looking for a self-guided outdoor experience or a more structured field trip, our reserves provide incredible opportunities for exploration, discovery, and connection to the outdoors. Schools from Greater New Bedford and Wareham Public Schools may also be eligible for Buzzards Bay Coalition staff support and guided activities at no cost. Our Outdoor Exploration team can help schools build meaningful experiences that connect students to local landscapes, waterways, and coastal environments. We encourage educators interested in visiting one of our properties to reach out to discuss opportunities for support, activities, and trip planning. Schools are welcome to visit independently, schedule supported field trips, request guided activities, combine outdoor exploration with classroom topics, or create custom experiences based on grade level or interests.
